How can I be kind

Out and About

Knowing someone personally isn’t necessary to spread goodwill wherever you can. There are infinite opportunities to create a positive impact and influence our environment to support connection and kindness.

  • Acknowledge when someone is kind to you

  • Be aware of others around you

  • Say “Hello” first

  • Consider your language choices

  • Volunteer

  • Invite someone to volunteer with you

  • Hold open doors for the person behind you

  • Make supportive comments on social media posts

  • Let someone into your lane when driving

  • Remember people’s names

  • Tip generously

  • Make an effort to talk to people who seem alone or uncomfortable at gatherings

  • Say “thank you” and “please” whenever you can

  • Pick up litter, go on a garbage collecting walk

  • Smile when you can

  • When someone says something kind about someone you know, pass it on

  • Return grocery carts

  • Switch seats on public transport so companions can sit together

  • Thank service providers you interact with

  • Help someone change a tire

  • Donate blood

  • If someone is new, make an effort to help them feel welcome

  • Turn in lost items when you come across them

Knowing someone personally isn’t necessary to spread goodwill wherever you can.

There are infinite opportunities to create a positive impact and influence our environment to support connection and kindness.

The everyday kindness of the back roads more than makes up for the acts of greed in the headlines.
